Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered that former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu be remanded in Kuje Prisonpending the court’s ruling on his bail application on March 21, PUNCH reports.

Yakubu’s lawyer, Ahmed Raji (SAN) had urged the court to grant the accused bail on self-recognisance.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned Yakubu after $9.772m and £74,000 cash was found in his house in a slum in Kaduna.

Counsel to the EFCC, Ben Ikani opposed the application, urging the judge to impose stringent conditions if he’ll grant bail to the accused.

Yakubu who had said that the money was a gift, filed a N1bn lawsuit against the anti-graft agency for human right violation.

The EFCC filed a 6-count charged bordering on Assets concealment and money laundering against the ex NNPC chief.

Yakubu pleaded Not Guilty  to the charges when they were read to him.
