Kogi State House of Assembly, on Thursday, elected a new Speaker following the resignation of Ahmed Imam, representing Lokoja 1 constituency.
The new speaker is Mathew Kolawole who is representing Kabba Bunnu state constituency.
Imam had resigned from office amidst the recent attack of the assembly by suspected thugs.
His resignation was announced by the Deputy Speaker, Hassan Abdullahi Baiwa member representing Okura constituency who presided over the House sitting on Thursday.
Imam said he resigned to avoid plunging the state into another round of political crisis.
Kolawole’s election came following his nomination by Ahmed Mohammed, the member representing Ankpa 1, and was seconded by Abdulkareem Kekere, representing Okehi constituency, .
In his acceptance speech , Mathew Kolawole promised to carry all aggrieved member along by delivering good legislation and people driven government.
Kolawole was formerly the House Majority Leader before his emergence as Speaker.
Also in the new shake-up in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Bello Hassan Balogun APC Ajaokuta is now the new Majority Leader while Victor Omofaye -APC Ijumu was elected as the Chief Whip.
