Ndubuisi Uzoma,a 37-year-old unemployed man, on Tuesday was sentenced by The

Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday to two years imprisonment for drug trafficking.

Uzoma was arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on a charge of dealing in restricted narcotics. The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court to temper justice with mercy and give him another chance to turn a new leaf. In his judgment, Justice Mohammed Idris, found the convict guilty as charged and accordingly convicted him.

“The convict is hereby sentenced to a term of two years imprisonment beginning from the date of his arrest,” the judge stated.

The Prosecutor, Mr. Jeremiah Aernan, had tendered a written statement of the convict, a bulk of exhibit, a request for scientific aid form, a drug analysis form as well as remnants of the restricted substance. Aernan told the court that the convict committed the offence in August 2017.

He said that the convict was arrested at Ijora in Lagos with about 500 grammes of  Indian hemp. The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section  11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
