A Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, Beautiful Gate Handicap Centre, has donated tricycles to 45 persons living with disabilities in Nasarawa State.
The Founder of the organisation, Mr Reim Rise, presented the tricycles to the beneficiaries on Friday at Obi, Obi Local Government Area, LGA, of the state.
Rise said the gesture was part of the organisation’s contributions toward the alleviation of the suffering of the physically challenged in the state.
He said that the tricycles would assist the beneficiaries to move from one place to another.
The founder disclosed that the organisation had so far donated over 15, 000 tricycles to persons with disabilities across the country in its 18 years of existence.
In his remarks, Mr Ayuba Burki, a physically challenged person and Director in the organisation, said the donation was made possible due to the NGO’s collaboration with traditional rulers in the area.
Burki called for the enactment of a law in the state to protect the rights of persons living with disabilities.
Also speaking, Aliyu Danjuma-Orime, the Osuko of Obi, thanked the NGO for the gesture, adding that it would go a long way in helping the recipients.
The traditional ruler also warned the beneficiary against selling the tricycles as anyone caught doing so would be sanctioned.
He appealed to the State Government to offer employment to the physically challenge persons who had diplomas, NCE and degree certificates.
Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Kassim Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to the NGO for the gesture and promised to use them for the purpose they were given.
He also appealed to government and other spirited individuals to always assist the physically challenged in order to give them a sense of belonging.
