Nigeria’s senior male hockey team coach, Tunde Odedokun, on Friday said his team’s target at the upcoming Africa Hockey Federation, AHF, Nations Cup was finishing as winners or runners-up.
Odedokun, speaking on his expectations at the Nations Cup in Egypt that succeeding at the continental level was now important, according to Agency reports.
He said it was now imperative for the team and its management to move from its present position on the continent to a higher one.
“We are presently ranked fifth in Africa and we are not okay with that.
“In the next couple of days, we shall be playing against tough teams like Egypt and South Africa with the hopes of beating them,’’ Odedokun said.
The coach said his team had undergone serious training and has played various test matches to put them in the best form.
He said he was confident the players would spring surprises at the competition with the hope of playing at the Olympics.
NAN reports that Nigeria’s senior male hockey team will be participating in the Africa Hockey Nations Cup which will kick off on Oct. 22 and end on October 29.
