United Global Resolve for Peace (UGRFP), an NGO, is moblising Nigerians against extra-judicial killings and other forms of human rights abuses, its Executive Directive, Mr Olaseni Shalom has said in a statement.
He said that the spate of mob killings and human right abuses had become worrisome; hence the need to campaign against the anomalies.
Shalom said that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had been weak in the protection of human rights and dignity of the citizens.
He commended the Nigeria senate for the recent passing of the Anti-Jungle justice bill.
“We at the UGRFP are calling on the law abiding and peace loving people of Nigeria to come out en-masse to support this anti-jungle justice campaign and to put an end to this menace and barbaric act of jungle justice and mob killings.
“We are launching a nationwide anti-Jungle justice campaign which will cut across seven states including the Federal Capital Territory.
“The campaign will start in Ondo State starting from December 18th to 21st.
“Our heart goes out to the families of the victims of jungle justice because no one should experience such pain and anguish,’’ he said.
Shalom, in the statement, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja, said that the campaign would commence in Ondo State from Dec.18 to Dec. 21.
He said that UGRFP believed in a society where citizens abided by the rule of law and their human rights and dignity cherished and protected.
