An Ivorian soldier has died after being wounded during an attack by armed men in the northern part of Ivory Coast, bordering Burkina Faso.
The attack was confirmed by Ivorian army chief, Lassina Doumbia, but he did not give more details on the identity of the attackers.
He said no civilians had been killed in the raid.
Jihadist groups operating along the borders with Mali and Burkina Faso have been blamed for past attacks in the area – their incursions have raised concerns over the stability of the region.
Last month, President Alassane Ouattara said Ivory Coast would spend 1% of its GDP on military operations to prevent jihadist incursions into the country.
