The Copper Queens kick off Africa’s Olympic action

Zambia’s women football team has kicked off action for Africa at the Olympics in Japan.

The Copper Queens are taking on the Netherlands at the Miyagi Stadium. It’s not been a great start – they’re 6-1 down at half time.

Though Zambia’s captain Barbra Banda has made history, scoring the team’s first ever goal at the Olympics after 19 minutes.

Zambia are the only female team from Africa and are up against European heavyweight teams.

The team has not had a smooth time preparing for Tokyo 2020 as most friendlies were cancelled because of the pandemic
